SHRMC Research
Four separate research projects
have been initiated as part of this cooperative agreement, using resources
provided by the SHRMC and in support of the consortium's mission. Three of
these projects involve climatic hazards or disturbances to forests or USFS
administered lands. The fourth project involves climate feedbacks
that are a result of changing forest cover due to urbanization.
-
High resolution hydrologic forecasting in the southern
Appalachians using MM5.
-
Assessing the Impact of Convectively Induced Windstorms on
Southern Forests.
-
Prediction of Appalachian cold air damming and icing events in
the Piedmont.
-
Assessment of urban deforestation on convection and
precipitation: Atlanta case study.
The SHRMC will collaborate with other scientists, local,
state, and federal air quality and fire regulators, other interested
parties, and colleagues at existing and planned modeling centers as
part of a national framework of regional interagency modeling
consortia.
