Smoke Management Tools Available from SHRMC

The Southern High Resolution Modeling Consortium (SHRMC) is dedicated to bringing land managers the best tools possible to help them manage smoke from prescribed fires. This site contains links to the best tools and information currently available ranging from weather forecast information to dispersion modeling tools. As always if you are not finding a tool to meet your needs or have questions please contact us

BlueSky

BlueSky is a smoke modeling framework developed by U.S. Forest Service Pacific Northwest Research Station. SHRMC is providing this tool for use in the southeast. Land managers can enter there burn information through our web site to have it included in the next model run.

PB-Piedmont

PB-Piedmont is a local smoke modeling tool designed for the prediction of smoke movement at night. This tool is especially helpful for determining whether a burn may cause smoke on the highway problems and accounts for the potential for localized fog as well.

Trajectory Analysis

Trajectories are useful tools for getting an idea of where the winds are going to carry your smoke. SHRMC calculates trajectories at regular intervals across the southeast for release heights of 1500, 3000 and 6000 ft.

Weather Forecasts

Hourly forecast weather maps are produced of a number of parameters of interest for smoke management such as mixing height, transport winds, ventillation index, dispersion index and the low visibility occurence risk index. Forecasts are produced twice per day.
